Belt Testing

Several students from Northern Martial Arts recently participated in Testing for new Belt Levels. Students performed difficult Kicking and Punching Techniques as well as demonstrating many advanced Self-Defense Techniques. They also had to demonstrate focus and concentration in performing Forms and Breaking Skills for Grand Master David Weatherly.

“Our school continues to grow and our students clearly are committed to continuing the traditions of the Martial Arts,” Master Instructor Tim Bruce said. “We have the largest school in Northern Michigan with the highest number of Black Belt Instructors. Our instructors deserve recognition for doing such a great job with our students. Our leadership Team is fantastic.”

What We Offer

Little Dragons Classes- offered to our students ages 4 to 6. Little Dragons is specifically designed with younger students in mind. We teach focus, coordination , working on balance and direction, all while having a great time! Classes are scheduled in 8 week sessions, with session 1 beginning in September.

Tae Kwon Do – one of the most popular martial arts in the world. It is the “sport of kicking and punching”. Perfect for all ages, students learn stances, kicks, punches, and some self defense. It is taught to students age 7 and up, or those who have completed our “Little Dragons” program.

Hap Ki Do – one of the oldest martial arts in history. Dating back over 4000 years, it literally translates to “The Art of Coordinated Power”. Students in HapKiDo are well rounded in their education, learning, kicks, punches, forms, joint locks, pressure point tactics, self defense, as well as weapons training. Due to the higher level of difficulty, HapKiDo is limited to students over age 9.

World Martial Arts recently had a Belt Test, at which several students advanced in Belt Rank. The belt testing was overseen by Chief Master Dave Weatherly, 9th degree black belt and head of World Martial Arts, Fenton Michigan.

World Martial Arts recently had a Black Belt Test, at which two students advanced in Belt Rank. Phillip Sterrit 1st Dan, and Steve Sutton 3rd Dan, both received advancement. On December 5, 2008, Northern Martial Arts had a belt testing at which several students advanced to higher rankings. The belt testing was overseen by Grand Master Dave Weatherly, 8th degree black belt and head of World Martial Arts, located in Fenton Michigan.

Northern Martial Arts continues to strive for excellence, in teaching by its instructors and training by its students. Most of the individuals in this picture, which was taken at a previous belt test, continue to be actively involved with Northern Martial Arts. Many of them, both instructors and students, have since advanced to higher belt ranks.
